Good Chores for Small Children

Add Comment

When your three-year-old spills water all over the floor or leaves his or her toys strewn across the house, you may find yourself spending the majority of the day feeling like a human vacuum cleaner, following him around and cleaning up every mess. But toddlers need to learn to keep clean just like every other family member in your house, and there’s no better time to teach them than now.

Toddlers will get a kick out of cleaning, so you’ll hear less whining and more “Ok!” responses if you maintain the enthusiasm. Don’t command, “Lucy, clean up this room now!” Instead, excitedly say, “Lucy, let’s clean up! It’s fun!” Follow up with an engaging cleaning song or a CD, make a game about cleaning quickly, and boom, you’re done in ten minutes.

How to Get Some Cleaning Help

Add Comment

Sometimes we feel like we’re leading double lives—our first career and then our second, unpaid job of house cleaner/manager. Housework should never fall on one person alone. Even if a couple decides that one person will work while the other stays at home to take care of it, it’s still important for everyone to pick up after themselves and respect one another.

When the members of a household start taking one person for granted because he or she tends to do all of the laundry, dishes, dusting, or all of the chores completely, not only is it hurtful and disrespectful for that person—it’s also quite slovenly of the rest of the house! If you, for example, microwave a bowl of chili and simply leave your microwave mess because “so-and-so will clean it,” there is a problem. But it’s an easy enough problem to fix. Here are some tips to use in dividing up household chores.

Time for Spring Cleaning!

Add Comment
Spring is officially here and for most, so is the big job of spring cleaning around the house. With the sun shining in and the windows open you may be starting to notice the dust in the corners and the clutter that has accumulated over the winter months. There's nothing like nice weather to point out all the cleaning that has been neglected over the last few months!

Growing up I remember dreading when my mother would mention spring cleaning. The list of chores seemed so overwhelming and could sometimes take a couple days of non stop cleaning to complete them all. From washing the walls with buckets of hot, soapy water to pulling everything out of the cupboards to clean the farthest corners of shelves, spring cleaning may as well have been a prison sentence as a kid. As an adult I still do not look forward to spring cleaning but the thought of not doing any of it is even worse. I do go about it quite differently than my mother did and still does, but it all gets done.

Add Comment
How does cleaning your bathroom in 5 minutes sound?  I know it sounds too good to be true and were my same thoughts when trained to do so. However, this process has saved me so much time and back ache I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. In the past I have been put to battle with some of the worst bathrooms your imagination could even come up with. Through trial and error, I have gotten the 5 minute bathroom cleaning technique down and want to share the wealth with all of you out there.

Begin with a quick evaluation of how bad off your bathroom really is. If you don't normally clean your bathroom, the first time will not be a 5 minute clean up. This works for bathrooms that get a cleaning at least once a week. When you have all that extra build up, you are going to have absolutely no choice but to do some thorough deep cleaning to get all the grime that has begun a new life of its own in your tub and toilet.
