This morning as I was finishing off my coffee and recycling my coffee grounds into fertilizer for my indoor plants I began to contemplate whether I was doing enough to minimize my carbon footprint. So I did the only thing I knew how to do, go online. I was happy to discover that overall my footprint was small according to the carbon footprint calculator I used; sadly the world's average footprint still needs work.
I then thought, hey why not search for landfills, which I absolutely do not recommend. Within mere seconds my computer was filled with terrifying pictures of over filled landfills. I was sent into a whirlwind of fear and thoughts, torn between climbing back into bed and covering my head and taking flight by running down the street screaming. Thankfully I regained control.
Once I had returned to a calm state I was able to come across the best idea I've seen in sometime, the Regives Network. The regives network allows you to post anything you have that you want to give away, a similar yet better version of the Craigslist free section. They are a grassroots movement that not only prevents further damage to our environment, they also provide a tool for people who need items that they normally wouldn't be able to afford.
I will be cleaning out my over filled basement in the near future and am planning to add a few post on the regives network in my area. Have any of you ever tried out this network? If not, do you have other ways that you recycled your used items?
