Did you ever read the Little House on the Prairie books?  Occasionally, when I get upset about how dirty my house is, I think back to the little dugout they lived in that had a dirt floor.  Ma swept that floor every day, but that didn’t change the fact that it was dirt.  While I am not eager to have a dirt floor, it does ease my mind to think that a little dirt will certainly not kill us!

In our super-sterile, afraid of personal contact and that g-e-r-m word world, it is easy to get caught up in needing to have the cleanest house.  In reality, a little dirt is actually good for us.  Kids who play in the dirt have better immune systems and are healthier overall.

Being too caught up in worrying about germs can be really stressful.  While it may not seem like it, your toilet really does not need to be bleached every week.  I mean, do you plan on eating out of it or something?  The same goes with floors.  They should be clean, because they look better, but unless you plan to have a meal directly on the floor, there is no need to worry about harsh cleaners to get it spotless.

Once you learn to relax about the germ factor, you can get back to enjoying your house and not spending so much time cleaning every imaginary germ source.  The only areas you really need to disinfect are those where food is handled or where things will come in direct contact with your mouth.
