Last week, we had the misfortune of getting a combination of rain and melting snow, which caused a really unpleasant flood situation in our house. Fortunately, it only reached the outer rooms, which are unfinished concrete and do not have any special furnishings. Still, cleaning up an inch of water from two rooms is no fun chore.

If you have pets, you know how frustrating this time of year can be. I have a Rottweiler mix, and I can’t believe how much hair she packs on when it looks so short, but in the spring, little tufts of hair play peekaboo beneath my feet and walk themselves around the house all day. It makes a person crazy! I have even seriously considered one of those automatic vacuum thingies, but that borders on the epitome of lazy to me, so I have refrained. If you have smooth floors, such as laminate, vinyl or hardwood, you may have noticed the dust bunny phenomenon, where dirt, hair and other undesirables gravitate toward the edge of the room, at least until you’re walking by, and then they jump out to collect on your socks. I have a lot of hard surface floors in my home and I am one of those on my knees type moppers. I like to get down on the ground and scrub my floors because it has always seemed like the only way to truly get them clean. This is not fun to do, however. I have had more than my share of problems when it comes to mops. Sponge mops have had to be rebought countless times, clothe mops cover my floors with excess water and spray mops have little holes bitten into them from my cats. My mop war is finally over with the new Rubbermaid Spray Mop.
For some reason, I have never known about the power of microfiber, until just the other day when I finally broke down and bought some for dusting.
