Battling the Refrigerator

It's time to go through and get rid of those dinner creations that have taken on a whole new life of their own in the back of your refrigerator. This is the time when I'm glad that I use containers that are disposable and can be tossed. There's nothing worse than finding your left over clam chowder from a few weeks ago buried in the back and then having to open that container to save your Tupperware.

There are couple cleaning product options when it comes to cleaning the inside of your refrigerator and freezer. Again, you can go with either your Scrubbing Bubbles or Power Paste. The essentials you can't budge on is your bottle of Soft Scrub with Bleach, a screwdriver and some old rags. Scrubbing Bubbles will work the best if you turn up the temp of your fridge and freezer so the cleaner doesn't freeze making it harder to wipe away. Use the Power Paste if you find that you have more spots that are stained on the walls of the appliance. Your Soft Scrub will also take off what the other cleaners do not.

Working top to bottom, begin with the inside of your freezer. Coat the entire inside with cleaner once you have taken care of the temperature issues. Wipe the cleaner out once it has had some time to sit in there and do it's job. What the cleaner doesn't get off the inside such as color markings from frozen vegetable packages, apply a small amount of Soft Scrub to one of your rags and rub the spot lightly in a circular motion until the stain is gone. If on your freezer door and refrigerator you have bars on the shelf that clip in to keep your belongings in place, remove them and start soaking them in hot water or toss them in the dishwasher. They are easy to replace since they just pop right back in. Your last step in cleaning your freezer is to use your screwdriver to release the lip at the bottom of your freezer. If you look down into it, you can see all the things that have fallen into it. Take out the screws, spray some cleaner, wipe out and your done.

Next, you will be working your way through your refrigerator the same way that you did your freezer. Before you begin to coat the inside, remove all your shelves and drawers and toss them in the dishwasher for an easy clean. Make sure that you have the temp adjusted for cleaning in the fridge section like you did for your freezer. Even though the temp isn't set as cool as the freezer, it's still cold enough to freeze up your cleaning products making it difficult to wipe out. When you are done, replace all your shelves, shelf brackets and groceries that made the cut.

Now for the last step; the outside of your refrigerator. This is probably the quickest and easiest step of the whole process. Using your Scrubbing Bubbles, coat one section at a time and wipe it down. If you have a lot of build up, use the Power Paste, hot, wet rags and a scrubby to be used lightly if needed. Work your way around it and don't forget to wipe off the top since that will have the most dust build up if it is a place that isn't used or acknowledged much.

*This is a cleaning process for standard refrigerators. If you have a stainless steel refrigerator, cleaning the outside with this process is not recommended since it can be too abrasive and leave damaging scratches and marks to your appliance.
