Don't Avoid Your Blinds Anymore
Blinds can be horrible to clean putting them at the top of the list of what is probably one of the dirtiest things in your house or apartment. Do you like to burn candles or do you smoke inside? In addition to the dust and possible mold build up, smoke damage from your candles and the nicotine from smoking can build up fast creating a huge project. I won't lie, if it is the first time you have touched your blinds in months, the job will by no means be quick and easy but I can give you a step by step plan to get you through it with out having to fill the bathtub with bleach water and pulling your blinds down to soak.
Before getting everything together to clean your blinds, look them over to see if they are even worth your time to clean. Sometimes, I have been in places where the previous home dwellers didn't bother to ever even look at their blinds let alone clean them. When they are this bad, I would toss them and have them replaced. When they are that bad and that far gone you may as well just start over. If you are a renter, swinging by the store with your window measurements, you can find replacements for pretty cheap. Just leaving them behind when you move out will cost you more money as apartment companies will almost always charge you almost double to triple the price for each set they have to change out.
So if you are going to clean them, here are the steps you need to take to get the job done right. Get out your cleaning caddy that you set up earlier with all the needed supplies and pull out the Windex or the Power Paste if they have nicotine issues. The Power Paste does a better job at foaming up the nicotine instead of having it run in a stream like it would if you sprayed them with Windex. Read the instructions on how to properly use the Power Paste. Depending on how bad the blinds are you may need several rags to get the work done for each set of blinds that you need to clean.
Apply the Windex or the Power Paste with the blinds in the closed position. Work from top to bottom and from seam to seam with where the the blinds are held together vertically. Clean the blinds in sections so you know that you aren't leaving anything behind. Use two rags, one in each hand and start with the first row at the top, using one rag to hold the blinds against the window firmly and the other wiping away the cleaner and filth with it in firm strokes. When you make your way down, push the finished ones up so that you are also wiping the covered area that is created by the blinds over lapping. Keep working your sections until you are complete then turn the blinds the other way and repeat. When you are finished, you will notice that the windows will need a quick Windexing.
If you keep up with your blinds the task will get easier and easier. Every couple of days grab your Pledge Disposible Duster and go over them to help prevent build up on them. Those of you that refuse to change your ways and still want to smoke inside, try to go over your blinds with the either one of the cleaners once a week to prevent major build up and try to burn your candles away from your windows. Keeping up will keep your cleaning lighter and quicker.
